ATLEF 3; “Student Transitions” call for proposals now open!

Posted on

The next round of Abertay’s Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (ATLEF) is now open with a focus on ““Student Transitions” to align with the current national enhancement theme but with a particular Abertay emphasis on Curriculum Reform. A further ATLEF call is scheduled for October 2015 which will be focussed around “technology enhanced learning”.

ATLEF 3 Principles

Project proposals are encouraged to be collaborative and support the implementation of Abertay’s curriculum reform within the context of the new national Enhancement Theme, “Student Transitions”.  A key success of the ATLEF initiative so far has been to engage students in learning and teaching-related action research and innovation. New for this call, therefore, it is expected that all proposals include an element of student engagement which not only includes students as subjects of the research but also as active participants in the research. Students employed as researchers in the ATLEF initiative are HEAR-recognisable.

This is an open call but we would particularly welcome proposals led by staff who have not yet been funded for an ATLEF project and student –led projects. Further guidance on the call and a template for submitting proposals is available here: ATLEF_3_Application_Form_Transitions strand

Funding of up to £3000 per project is available and funding may be requested for:

  • Research and development costs, including research assistant costs;
  • Purchase of training or services;
  • Hospitality;
  • Travel and subsistence;
  • Materials (e.g. production of posters and other outputs);
  • Impact evaluation;
  • Attendance at dissemination events;
  • Equipment.

ATLEF will not cover FEC/overheads, contingency funds or staff time. Guidance from Research Enterprise and Innovation Services (REIS) on developing costings for bids is included as an appendix to this application form.  All applications must follow this process.

Projects will be expected to start in August 2015 and to run for 6-9 months.

All funded projects will be expected to present their findings at Abertay’s next TLE conference which is scheduled for autumn 2016.

The call for applications is opens from Monday 11th May and applications must be submitted by 4pm Friday 19th June 2015 to If you have an enquiry prior to the deadline, please email
