JISC Digital Festival 2015

Posted on Updated on

Between 9th-10th March JISC held their Digital Festival in Birmingham. It was an opportunity to explore and discuss all things digital in relation to education in FE and HE institutions. Although I didn’t manage to attend the festival I always make sure to check out the tweets and presentation slides for valuable insight into sector trends, case studies and good practice. This summary video of the JISC Digital Festival 2015 is worth watching to get a flavour for what happens at this event and to hear from some of the attendees. The Association of Learning Technology review of DigitalFest15 is also worth a read. Alternatively listen to The Times Higher Education podcast about the digital festival.

There were many presentations during the festival (see full list of programme and slides), these are just some of the presentations that caught my eye:

Good practice in learning analytics (code of practice for learning analytics pdf)

What does a digitally capable institution look like?

3D technologies for teaching and learning

How can technology help to prepare learners for the world of work?

Student expectations of entering higher education

Keynote speakers

Simon Nelson, CEO of Futurelearn

Keynote: “Moocs, online learning and virtual environments.”

Carole Goble, Professor in the school of computer science at the University of Manchester

Keynote: “Insights into research data management and data centres.”
